Several minor obstacles can spoil your vacation in Egypt, but if you follow our advice, which we will now look at together, you have nothing to worry about.
Egypt is located in the northeastern part of Africa, bordering the Mediterranean and Red Seas. It shares borders with Libya to the west, Sudan to the south, and Israel and the Gaza Strip to the east. The eastern part of the country consists of the Sinai Peninsula, which was temporarily occupied by Israel in the 1970s.

Egypt covers an area of more than 1 million km2, roughly equivalent to Germany and France combined. It has a population of around 81 million, which has roughly tripled over the last 50 years. The capital is Cairo With more than 6 million inhabitants, another important city is Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast with almost 2 million inhabitants.
The official language is Arabic. In cities and tourist areas, you should also be able to communicate in English or French.
In religion, very significantly Islam is predominant, to which 94% of the population professes. The remaining 6% profess Coptic Christianity, which, although not officially disadvantaged, is treated somewhat differently in practice.
Since we are visiting a foreign country as tourists, we should also follow certain rules that are commonplace here.
Egypt is located one time zone east of Central European countries. However, daylight saving time was permanently abolished there in 2011. In practice, this means that In summer (i.e., from the end of March to the end of October), the time here is the same as in our country.. Pokud budete travel to Egypt in winter, you should set the time on your watches or cell phones forward by 1 hour.
When visiting Egypt, unlike tourists from America or the British Isles, you will not need a plug adapter. Standard type C sockets are used here., which we are used to on the European continent, only they lack a grounding pin. In principle, however, this should not interfere with the operation of your electrical appliances. Since Egypt is not a very developed country, you should be prepared for worse stability of the electrical grid – voltage may fluctuate slightly.
However, sometimes you may encounter a socket that does not have deep enough holes for the pins to fit into, causing the cable to fall out. In this case, hotel staff may advise you to prop up the end of the cable with something or attach it to the socket with adhesive tape. A more elegant solution is, of course, to use an adapter, which should be available in some of the better hotels. If you are using multiple appliances, we recommend bringing a power strip with you.
